Joined August 04 with what I thought was 1 month free trial.
Got charged after 14 days - not so impressed but couldn't be bothered to change as was getting DVDs so happy...
Have rented 54 movies and have paid £75. I would say I had about 3 weeks when I didn't rent at all for various reasons and didn't freeze it so I probably could have rented about 65 over that period. That makes about £1.25 - £1.50 per DVD.
Average per month is (again excluding my inactivity) about 13 (varies from 12 - 15). I could probably pack in about 5 more with some real effort but I don't think it's worth it - I do have other things to do!
Their system works on the basis of a ranked queue - you put them in order of preference - one the highest. You can change this order at any time. This is a good idea in principal and they have now changed to say that you will always get one from your top 10.
As described in another post turn around is ok (but I suspect dependant slightly on where you live). They do however blatantly send out DVDs after 5pm in order to ensure they arrive a day after the others and in doing so prevent you renting more than about 5 per week. This is annoying but only because it's so obvious and they seem to think blaming it on their own system is ok - obviously they thought I was an idiot ;).
Customer service I have no complaints about. I find that if you really want a film from your top 5 then you need to find something to complain about - this way they increase your priority on their system and it automatically shifts you to the top of the pile for receiving a top 5 film. Otherwise you tend to get what I would call less popular films first. EG you may add some oldies/TV series because it will be fun and make a change from hollywood. However this will mean that for several weeks you will only be watching these types of DVD and unfortunately it is not so much fun - oldies are good but we also like some action or some sfx!
Have been considering whether or not to risk playing their system and reducing the queue to 3 or 4 thus forcing them to send what I want. However I can see that this would give them the perfect excuse to take an extra few days to turn around. I would always advise sticking to their MINIMUM though as you get more control over what you get (I have no more than 15 in my queue and have had no problems as a result)
I was considering changing but will miss the period now to prevent the next month's payment going so I'm stuck for another month.
Having read the other posts though I think DVDs365 seems to be measuring up. Possibly this is due to their ambition to provide a good service combined with what seems like a lower market share - good for me right now as they are keen to please.
Would be interested to hear anyone elses thoughts on this company. I'm not sure whether to ditch them now? Or to stick with them for above reasons.
The other general concern I personally have is that is the fact that you have accounts with these companies increasing the number of DVDs you watch. Is this because you want to watch the DVDs or you want to get the most for your £15? I suspect that half the time it's the latter. |

| Hi henry.. I enjoyed reading your post, and you're pretty much spot on. There's always the pros and cons of any company, and excuses, though many have more cons. As per my posts, I think DVDs365 rated pretty well in my books and probably worth sticking with, but... if oneself feels the service has declined, then it's time for a change? Let us know what you end up doing, cheers. |
