Return time at the end of trial/cancellation?

Some rental companies allow a certain amount of time after cancellation for the return of the outstanding DVDs. Screenselect used to do that, for example. Recently I discovered they don't do so any more. They now have a return by payment date policy, I believe.
Has anyone recently cancelled a subscription or free trial with Lovefilm? What was their policy?
Also, did they offer any discounts to retain your custom?
