My first posting on here, motivated solely by my disgust at the Fair Usage policy Lovefilm purport to operate, which is in truth solely a means of restricting how many discs they send you in a month.

If you're on, say, the 3 disc package, you pay £15 a month. Let's assume they have to pay 30p each time the disc is in the post (it's probably less due to bulk discounts etc, but may not be). That's 60p per rental. So 5 rentals costs them £3. 25 rentals costs them £15. They make no money on 25 rentals a month, which is equivalent to 6 discs a week.

You can see why they operate a system which favours low users and deliberately delays sending discs out to you. One day's delay on each rental saves them a couple of pounds a month.

This in itself is not a problem - they are entitled to make money, and let's be fair, even 15 rental for £15 is a bargain compared to high street prices. The point I disagree with is the way they portray themselves as being unlimited but are not.

I think this needs to be challenged. And whilst I don't necessarily believe they are operating outside the law, I think the combination of customer publicity and a smattering of legal knowledge might just change things.

I'm a lawyer, and I'm happy to try to coordinate this. So if you're interested in a group complaint/challenge, send your details to me at zander47 at hotmail dot com, and I'll get back to you with thoughts on the next step.

Hi Zander........Wink

Speaking for myself, I always prefer to keep things out in the open (rather than through private e-mails).

I really like the idea of us taking on LF, because it is a disgrace that they are breaching trading rights and gettting away with it.

btw......welcome to the forum.

Very Happy

I prefer the open route, but was concerned others might not be (e.g. for giving e-mail addresses etc).

If everyone interested joins this thread, let's see where we can take this!

Count me in.

Here is the thread where the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) were contacted regarding LF and I printed the reply that I got from them >

Also they have already been reported to Trading Standards and managed to squirm their way out of it>

So these are avenues that have already been tried.
