Hi Guys,

Just thought I would pass on some info regarding the fire at Screenselect, do not be fooled by what they are saying on their website, their main warehouse in Faringdon is what went up in flames & they have no stock what so ever due to this fire, it is not likely that we will be receiving any discs from them for a long while, I advise anyone who reads this to do as I have & cancel your account.

Don't forget this will also affect you if you are signed up to ITV Movies, MSN, Dixons & Tesco.

As luck would have it I received a comeback offer from lovefilm last week so I think I'll have a look there again see if they have got better.

The pictures aren't great as they were taken with a mobile phone camera. They are of the warehouse & there offices, yes you can see through the warehouse roof.

I quit with them today (which has to be done over the phone) and I have to be honest and say that their service has remained the same for months.......BAD.

It's your choice of course.

Given that a certain proportion of their discs must have been out on rental at the time of the fire, they must have stock that hasn't been destroyed.

according to reports 70% of stock was out on rental

The cause of the fire in Westwood Business Centre, Acton - where Video Island has its warehouse - on Thursday, 1 September remains unclear. Nobody was injured by the fire. The extent of the damage is still to be determined. Video Island's IT operations are run from a separate location unaffected by the fire, so historical customer data and purchasing records remain intact.

Video Island expects to begin "partial service" this week. "Our business is fortunate that at any one time nearly 70 percent of our discs are out with customers, so a large percentage of our library remains intact," Calver said. A spokeswoman for the firm said that it would offer subscribers compensation for any interruption or delays in its service. It is asking customers to delay sending back DVDs until Wednesday (7 September). Video Island processes approximately 1.5m DVD shipments per month. ®

There is no truth in the rumour that 1000's of angry customers are helping the police with their enquiries.

Also I don't believe for one minute, that LoveFilm wanted revenge on ScreenSelect for this>
http://dvdtrials.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=345

I also find it far fetched, that sacked employees from DVDs365 would do this to them.

I don't know who starts these rumours........Very Happy

What's not backed up? I have told you what I know, see my 1st post I have even supplied photo's of the warehouse, what more do you want?

BTW I have given them a week, but still haven't had any new discs, so I cancelled this morning.

I am one of ScreenSelect's Directors and I must say that much of what I am reading above is absolute rubbish. I want to provide some of the hard facts/backup that is asked for above.

I don't know where most forum posters think they get their material but what I do know is this:
- we are processing all discs returned normally
- we had two days around last weekend when we could not dispatch DVDs but we are now sending out DVDs normally too
- we are now operating at normal weekly volumes
- we are compensating all affected customers, who will be emailed within the next few days

Far from us 'cacking ourselves' (as mentioned by a previous post), over the last week since the fire on 1 September we achieved the following:
- we are running double shifts in order to make the most of our reduced space
- one day this week was our biggest day for shipping DVDs, ever.
- we are buying five times as much stock as normal in order to replace fire damage
- we have had countless positive comments from staff about our service and recovery from the fire
- we have responded to all our customer service queries within 24 hours

Though the fire has been a difficult period for us we are doing our best and believe that almost all customers should be receiving a substantially normal service from us. If anybody has waited more than a few days for a DVD they should contact us and we will put it right as soon as we can. We do of course welcome all constructive feedback and would love to hear suggestions via our website.

After reading your explanation (based on your obvious defence of your company) I look on that as untrustworthy.
I am no longer a customer with your company (I cancelled my account the week before the fire) and to be honest the service that I received was so bad, I wouldn't have noticed any difference if the fire had happened when I was a member. The lack of discs that I received each week after paying £14.99 for a "so called unlimitted" package was disgraceful.

This was from your own site for customers to read when they logged in (I see that it has now been removed):
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS! Please read.
We have experienced a fire in the warehouse which will lead to a temporary disruption in service over the next few weeks.
As a result of this fire, there will be no dispatches until Tuesday at the earliest; we hope to manage partial service by the end of next week. We thank you for your patience during this time.
We will be offering full compensation for any loss in service that you experience. More details on this compensation will follow early next week.

I had phoned up your CS about this and they did NOTHING and this was before the fire, so you can see why I find your comments to be untrustworthy.
I also see that you "welcome contructive feedback"......Well you should welcome the comments that the other members here have posted above, instead of dismissing it as "rubbish"

this is complete lies they said they only suffered two days of dvd mailing loss so why oh why have I only recieved two discs since it has happened? I am on a two disc unlimited, more like limited to 8 a month if I'm lucky.

What a pile of *******!

Pardon me for daring to even sugest you have got it wrong with the above quote William but should it not be the "paying" customer's opinion you should be seeking on this and not your own staff's?

Yet another case of a tin pot company who have let rapid growth over a short term period go straight to their heads and ignore the one thing they depend upon above all others, their customers. Watch you don't shoot yourselves in your own feet now. Rolling Eyes

Totally agree with you Laz, and the arrogance of that Screen Select guy backs that up. The fire sounds bad for everyone concerned, but why not ask for your customer's patience, and reward them for their help!?! If I hadn't seen the pictures (which look like a building about to be condemned!) I would have said it was another cynical attempt from SS to not send any discs out for a couple of weeks....
