Well, I'm one of those people who had excellent service from LOVEFiLM for many months...
... but then things went bad.
I was on the £14.99 subscription, and if I sent three DVDs back on a Monday, I'd get three more through the letter-box on the Wednesday. Equally, if I sent those three back on the same day (hypothetically - I used to work several weekends - I was a bookseller, alas!) I'd get another three on Friday... So, six a week... 24 a month - pretty good.
I think I probably averaged about 3-5 a week, with slow months as well as "busier" ones... But the key thing was, if I wanted to see a lot, I could - I just had to send them back quickly enough.
Now, of course, all has changed.
I upgraded to £19.99 just to see... and have had nothing but irritation. I sent four discs back Monday; they were "checked in" on Tuesday; but I didn't get anything on Wednesday. Nor, in fact, will I get anything today. I may, it seems, get one disc tomorrow, and I may, in turn, get another three on Friday.
So, I'm paying £5 more but will struggle to get four in a week...
And it isn't about watching a huge number; it is, rather, about about having the choice - if four discs had arrived on Wednesday, I might have watched one, might have watched two, might not have watched any. But I'd have had four different things (hopefully a mix of genres, etc.) to choose from.
I have been sending emails to them all night.
And I had a very, very good argument with somebody on the phone this morning. But she didn't see my problem - she didn't see how illogical it was to be so shitty to your medium-to-heavy users.
It is so unfair!
I kept telling her that the service had been brilliant... once upon a time.
I mentioned that the name of the company played on people's LOVE of film... but to no avail...
She said feedback has been very good. People prefer getting less discs, she said, if the discs they do get are from higher slots in their queue.
She denied that there were set restrictions on high users... And she said it was all done by a computer.
There was no "threshold", apparently... I'm sure there is. I'm sure that once you hit a certain number of discs in a given period they really slow things down...
Mmmm...
Finally, after much arguing, she gave me an 8 Disc Extreme Package... for the same price as my own package, for a month...
I'm dubious. But should I take it?
Or should I just ditch them?
I like watching DVDs... and I find their website very comfortable to use...
Help! Please! |

I actually continued to read up on all the horror stories and decided that even £19.99 was too much - I've got loads of Doctor Who to re-watch, and I really should be reading more...
So, I've cancelled - as a direct result of their new policy. I just have to return the discs that arrive tomorrow... |
