I have just had a free trial with ScreenSelect. This is the second one I have had and so I didn't check the terms and conditions. I had a 21 day trial.

There was no problem with the trial itself but I think I maybe charged because they have changed the terms and conditions and you no longer get 7 days to return the discs which is what I assumed.

So watch out if you trial with them for this because I am going to get stung for not re-checking.

And if I do get charged, please can you change the site info mr admin person.

Tar very much

This is a complete disgrace.
They could have at least informed all their current members, that they were going to change that important aspect of the membership.
I checked that out just a couple of weeks ago and it was still there.

If I were you Sol......I would phone them and give them a piece of your mind.

Funny enough...i had a trial and a one month paid sub to Screenselect which i cancelled 2 days before the next billing date (July 1st). I sent the last 2 discs back on 28th June, fully expecting that to be the end of it.

I checked my online bank statement yesterday to find they'd taken £14.99 out of my account on July 1st. Perplexed, i went to the site to see that, yes, my account is still cancelled, and no more dvds have been sent - yet they have my money!

So i rang them up and told them the above. 'Apparently', both discs didn't reach SS til July 1st - one day late, incurring the charge. Strange, as every other disc sent back for the past 2 months reached them next day. She started quoting 'terms and conditions' and i blew up with the poor girl. She wanted to get someone to ring me back but i insisted on staying on until i spoke to management. She put me on hold for a good 5 mins, then came back on and said she'd refund it immediately.

I think what made the difference was that i'd been a paid subscriber. If i'd been on a trial they probably wouldn'tve refunded me.

It is strange though, don't you think that these 2 discs should take 3 days to 'reach them'? Despicable too, that if i hadn't checked my statement, that they'd have been paid for another month's service, but not given me anything for it.

I told them they should email customers to tell them so they can at least re-activate and get some discs for their money. Might as well fart in the wind....

I just can't believe I didn't check. It just never occurred to me to re-check the terms and conditions before the end of the trial which is really strange as this is about the tenth trial I have done and this is the only time I have been stung. Must be getting complacent!!

Jiltz, I am not going to bother chasing this, I am not going to get too wound up about things like this, it really isn't worth it. I am getting a little bit pissed off in some ways with this whole rental thing.

From what happened to you DD, It seems as if SS is going down the LF road, how long till the other companies are all there. It is just so f**** inept. The problem is that they advertise unlimited rentals so people naturally take their monies worth. What they should say is you can have unlimited rentals as long as you only have 8 a month because that is more like the truth.

I think these companies know that they have to scam to make money and in a few years they will all be out of business. The only exception to this is Blockbuster who naturally will still be in business because people will still be renting from their shops.

It is just all a little sad. If one decent company came along they could corner the market right now and I think most of the people on this site would be there, I know I would.

As for SS, avoid, and be very careful if you do take up their supposedly "free trial."

Yes, I got an e-mail from these guys.. for a 2 week trial, which I can't do being in Oz, so hope to hear from you guys who do give 'em a go. In Oz, there is only about 5 or 6 DVD companies; I'm trialing the 4 big companies.

at least moviestream had the decency to send an email out apologizing for any postal delays that the events in london have caused unlike other companies who couldn't care less once they have our money
