As you can tell from my name I work for an online rental company. Believe me many of our staff do not agree with the decisions which are being taken from the people upstairs but can only follow the rules.
We are at the front line of the customer complaints. I do understand that you guys may not agree with all the desicions but trust me you're not alone. |

You may be an exeption but many of your fellow workers do not appear to sympathise with disgruntled customers. It would not be so bad even if you obey your masters demands if they all showed some compassion to us.Many staff just dismiss us out of hand and do not give the impression that they understand our feelings.Try apologising and admitting your companies mistakes.Even if your hands are tied,a little common sense and understanding helps. |

Many thanks for coming here and telling us that much.
Surely though you can expand further, i.e. tell us all what their tactics are and what depths they are stooping too etc. Your cover is safe so please spill the beans as a favour to all of us who have been treated so poorly.
I await you reply. |

Here, here...... Come on, be a true whistle blower, don't just give us your understanding, give us the satisfaction that we are right and there are underhand tactics by said companies. |

Let us in on these decisions from those upstairs.

You dont need him to. His bosses are just slowing down their turnover, mostly due to the "I rent 15 dvds a week and have a hard drive bursting with pirated moves" brigade.
Some of whom have been known to hang out on this forum. |

You are partly correct i'm sure, but not everyone who has a quick turnaround is copying dvds - i don't. I'm just lucky enough to have a job where i can watch dvds during the day.
One thing you should consider though, mr toast, is that the reason why Lovefilm etc etc are as big as they are is exactly because a great proportion (if not the majority) of members are renting to copy for themselves. If technology didn't exist to do this so easily, then i assure you online rentals would not be anywhere near as popular.
"It's illegal" you may cry, and again you'd be correct, but the way the world is going, a civil 'crime' which limits the profits of worldwide conglomerates is becoming more and more tolerated. I know many good decent hardworking people who are quite happy to buy a dvdrip of a new movie. Why pay more for the same thing, just to line the pockets of fat greedy managing directors?
Now i realise that the above statement will annoy some people but i don't want it to trigger a full scale debate about the morality of movie reproduction - that's for another forum. |

All lovefilm are doing is ripping people off. If they were concerned about piracy then they would only offer one disk at a time and limit you to one rental a week.
'That's what they are doing' i hear you cry. Yes but they charge you for 3 unlimited which is cheating.
I no longer rent any dvds from anyone, because when you do the math would you REALLY spend £180+ in a video shop over a year?
I Don't think so... |

Agree !!
Yet, some of the DVD rental companies ARE CONCERNED about piracy and have included it in the Terms and Conditions of membership......ScreenSelect and Lovefilm have this.
I couldn't find any mention of piracy on the Blockbuster site, but I believe they have a notice (behind the counter) in their shops.
However, it is not their job to enforce it anymore than a car rental firm would do....if their vehicles were to be used for illegal purposes....such as a "getaway car" in a bank robbery.
The only concerns to ANY rental company will be, the money they earn and the safe return (in good condition) of their property.

I also wouldn't spend £180 in a video shop for a year, especially as video shops charge the customer a lot more than online rentals?
I also done my maths....... |
