Since the 17/3/05 I have been keeping a record of what films I get, when I get them and when I return them. This should give you an idea of total films per month and turnaround times.
Trialled comapies are LOVEFiLM and CheekyDVD. At one point I upgraded my account on both sites (3-4 for LF and 2-3 for CDVD), looking at the stats I dont think the number of extra dvds I recieved a month justifies the price increase.
btw I have been busy the last few weeks so I didnt have time to keep records, as a result there are a few dates missing.

What kind of packaging do cheekydvd send their dvds out in? Is it discreet?
I'm kind of paranoid about this after ordering an adult dvd from cd-wow - the title was printed on the packaging! |

Yeah you cant even tell theres a dvd in it, unlike LF which has LOVEFiLM printed in big letters
I think I have 2 dvds lost in post from cheeky, they were posted on 15th April and sent back around 18th/19th. Their policy is to charge the customers account the full RRP of the dvds until a lost in post form is filled out and sent back to them. Sent them an email on friday telling them that I think the discs may be lost in post and pointing out the fact that the 3rd slot hadnt been filled for a while either, should get a reply on monday so I'll let you know the outcome. |

I'd be intrigued to know if you get a reply from them as i've heard nothing from them re. my complaint about poor service. To be fair to them, i too had a DVD that they didn't receive back but they said as it was the 1st time they'd not bother etc with all the paperwork. However i sent my last 2 movies back to them on the 28th April (Thursday b4 Bank Holiday), they were shown as received back on the Tuesday after and to date they still haven't sent me any replacements (my queue is 51 titles so its not as if they haven't a choice!!) Any one else suffered similar problems with them? |

That's good news! I don't like the idea of getting charged full RRP for lost DVDs though - that could be pretty expensive. This talk of poor service is a bit worrying... |

Well I got a reply. It reads as follows:
| Quote: | Sorry for delay in getting back to you catching up since the bank
holiday.
Ive marked the DVDs as missing so you receive your next discs. You will
be sent a form for Royal Mail within 2-3 weeks to fill in (its very
short)so we can claim compensation. This is just an anti-fraud measure.
We normally operate a policy (which you agreed to when you signed up)
of charging for lost DVDs and issuing a form which you complete, and
which we then use to claim the amount back from the Royal Mail. When we
receive the form back from you we credit your account for the amount.
This charge will only be taken if the form is unreturned 7 days after
sending to you.
Regards

"Ive marked the DVDs as missing so you receive your next disc" - Still only showing the remaining 1 that was sent on the 26th April. Probably wont recieve another DVD this week. Thier service has been fine up until the last 2 weeks, LF is about the same. Both have gone really cr*p now. I say go for the free trial and just leave when it starts going s***...which it will.
I think I might go back to blockbuster |

| Well I got a reply in response to the other email I sent titled 'Not Happy!'. Its word for word exactly the same reply I got last time I complained; 1 free week, exlusive link, probably because you dont have enough films in your list blah blah...(I have over 60 films in my list!!). Apparently they have sold off over 70% of their stock and are waiting for levels to replenish. Thats not my fault is it!? Cant complain at free week tho. 2 more films were dispatched today, should be here tomorrow. Also received 2 of the 3 dispatched by Lovefilm. |

| Got the same response myself on Monday- free week, exclusive link etc and that bit about selling 70% of their stock!!! Whats the use of running a "rental" service if you ain't got any to rent!! And why don't they update the site to show those that are still available! Also had 2 dvds sent out on Tuesday, received 1 yesterday but still no sign of the other.......here we go again! |

Well since my email I have recieved 4 dvds (from the 11th to the 14th) from cheeky and 7 from LF (10th to the 14th), 2 of these were red dwarf dvds (season 4+5) which is annoying because Ive already had 1 and 2 and 3 is at the top of my list whereas 4+5 were at the bottom (about 50th).
I think most companies blame bank holidays too much, I mean yeah it will affect service but I bet they drag it out a bit to limit your dvds.
Can you log onto cheekydvds site? When I try I get this error:
| Code: | QUERY FAILED: INSERT INTO logins SET lo_acid=1532,lo_date=NOW(),lo_ipaddress='81.152.55.208',lo_autologin='0'
DB Error: unknown error |
I think they've done this on purpose... |

Yeah, i had the same issue last week - their customer services said they were experiencing technical difficulties!
Still haven't received the DVD sent from the 10th May and its still marked up as rented! Also the 1 i did receive and returned hasn't got back to them either!!! Never had any problem with missing DVDs with any other company, yet this is 3 now with Cheeky. |

Well I looked at my currently rented dvds page on cheekydvd and there is now a dvd listed as being sent on the 26th April...strange that this dvd wasnt even on there before I had problems getting on the site, now its just appeared. Something Fishy going on...
I've sent an email to both companies (LF and ChDVD), heres what it said-
| Quote: | On the whole I am happy with your service but I do
have a qaulm. I keep a record of what dvds I recieve
from you per month. This is how its looking so far:
month 1 - 17 dvds
** level upgraded 3 to 4 **
month 2 - 23 dvds
month 3 - 17 dvds
month 4 - started yesterday
I understand what you're saying about excessive demand
effecting things but you've got to admit its annoying
for me that when I upgrade my membership level I still
get the same amount of dvds as when I was paying less.
As I've just started month 4 (going from 18th to 18th
btw) I'll hang on and see how this one goes, after all
maybe month 3 was just a bad month and was a one off.
Regards, |
And here's what LF sent back-
| Quote: | Thank you for writing to us at LOVEFiLM.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We have checked your account
details and found that we have dispatched your 4th disc "UB40 -
Homegrown In Holland Live" on May 20, 2005.
Please feel free to contact us, in case of any further queries.
Yours Sincerely,
Sean Osler
Lovefilm Customer Services |
From cheeky I've had so far:
month 1 - 10
month 2 - 12
month 3 - 7
month 4 - ongoing
I'm still waiting for a reply from Cheekydvd, I think I'm going to cancel after I've got this lost in post mess sorted. |

Hi Guys,
Can I ask you a question.
Do you lose the DVDs on returning to cheekyDVDs, or coming to yourself.
I have been a member for 18months and a dvd is lost every month or so.
Funnily enough it's always on way back. Sending To Me, it never fails, but they blame my postage area. It simple to me. When so many plastic DVDs go to one address, the postman thinks, they won't mind a couple going missing and blaming on post. That's why it's always lost on way back to them.
The other fact is "Why wait 3-4 weeks". I've lost 10+ DVD's, and they never turn up, so why wait??
I don't trust them now. Here's another theory, when a DVD is lost how come it's never removed from the list. Interesting!!!!
Does anybody know of anybody else Renting Adult DVD's
What about "dvdsmonthly" |
