| Quote: | Movietrak and Qflicks have merged in a bid to expand their presence in the growing UK online DVD rental sector, while also providing the first instance of consolidation in the industry.
The deal will see the former competitors maintain their brands, with Qflicks offering a subscription - based rental model to subscribers, while Movietrak will specialise in 'pay as you rent' single DVD rentals.
Movietrak claims to be the oldest online DVD rental company in Europe, launching in January 2000, while privately owned Qflicks entered the market in December 2003, with investors from the US, UK
and Europe and strategic relationships with The Guardian and Empire film magazine.
Roy Gunter, CEO and founder of Qflicks, will become CEO of the new business, while Richard
Brooke, currently managing director at St James's Investment Partnership, becomes Chairman. Brooke was formerly group finance director of BSkyB.
"Bringing these two successful companies together demonstrates our purpose, which is to be the number one player in the market, " said Gunter. "We are boosting our subscriber base, increasing
our depth of titles and strengthening our management team."
