Seems as there already looking at offering movies by download. Owner seems confident they will do it, but downloading movies maybe a good alternative as then you dont have to wait for dvds to be posted to you and you return them. They should also be able to have enough digital copies of each movie so you should be able to get what you want.
But download of movies will probably miss out all those extras you get from dvd and have the movie only.
| Quote: | Online DVD rental firm DVDs365 is to offer downloadable films to broadband users later this year, becoming the first of the major rental firms to promise such a service.
The technical development of the system is already under way and DVDs365 has been talking to film studios about making their films available. The pricing has yet to be decided and the company is likely to seek external funding to support the service launch.
While many of those involved in online film rentals expect the market to shift eventually towards downloadable films, to date all the major UK players have concentrated on winning market share with their existing DVD services.
Details of DVDs365's plans are still sketchy, but Bill Dobbie, managing director of owner The DVD Biz, confirmed: "We'll definitely do it."
The download service is also likely to be offered as a white-label service to other companies.
Such services are already well established in the US, from companies such as CinemaNow, which already has a deal in the UK to provide streaming and downloadable movies through portal Tiscali. |
